DP MCB, Two Pole Protection That Covers Both Live and Neutral
A Single Pole MCB only disconnects the live wire. That’s fine for most standard circuits. But when you need to completely isolate a circuit, including the neutral, a Double Pole MCB is the right choice. It disconnects both live and neutral simultaneously, which is important for safety during maintenance, equipment servicing, and installations where neutral isolation is a specific requirement.
DP MCBs are commonly used as incomer breakers in SPN distribution boards, for AC units and geysers where double isolation is preferred, in single-phase panels where the full circuit needs to be isolated, and in generator changeover applications.
We stock 86 DP MCBs from Hager, Siemens, Legrand, LnT, Goldmedal, IndoAsian and Schneider Electric. Current ratings from 6A all the way to 63A. All 10kA breaking capacity. Type B for resistive loads like lighting and heating, Type C for inductive loads like motors and compressors. BIS certified under IS/IEC 60898, HSN Code 8536, made in India.

💬 FAQ Section
Q1. What is a DP MCB and where is it used? A DP MCB (Double Pole Miniature Circuit Breaker) disconnects both the live and neutral conductors simultaneously when it trips. It is used as an incomer breaker in SPN distribution boards, for AC and geyser circuits where full isolation is preferred, in single-phase generator changeover panels, and any installation where complete circuit isolation including the neutral is required.
Q2. What is the difference between SP MCB and DP MCB? An SP MCB (Single Pole) switches and protects only the live conductor. A DP MCB (Double Pole) switches and protects both live and neutral. For standard sub-circuit protection in a residential DB, SP MCBs are used. DP MCBs are used at incomer positions or wherever the full two-wire circuit including neutral needs to be isolated at the same time.
Q3. What is the difference between DP MCB and TPN MCB? A DP MCB is designed for single-phase applications, protecting two conductors: live and neutral. A TPN MCB is designed for three-phase applications, protecting three live phases and a neutral conductor (four conductors total). DP MCBs are used in single-phase DBs and panels; TPN MCBs are used in three-phase TPN distribution boards.
Q4. What is the difference between Type B and Type C DP MCB? Type B DP MCBs trip at 3 to 5 times the rated current, suitable for resistive loads like lighting circuits and heating elements. Type C trips at 5 to 10 times rated current, better for inductive loads such as motors, compressors, and transformers where high inrush current occurs at startup. Using the wrong curve causes either nuisance tripping or inadequate protection.
Q5. Which brands of DP MCB are available on Elecload India? Elecload India stocks DP MCBs from Hager, Siemens, Legrand, LnT, Goldmedal, IndoAsian and Schneider Electric. All are BIS certified under IS/IEC 60898, HSN Code 8536, and made in India. These are the most trusted brands used by electricians, panel builders and consulting engineers across India.
Q6. What ampere rating DP MCB is needed for a split AC unit? For a standard 1.5 ton or 2 ton split AC, a 20A or 32A DP MCB is typically used depending on the full load current of the specific AC model. Always check the AC unit’s nameplate current rating and choose a DP MCB rated at 125% of the full load current. Use Type C curve for AC units due to compressor inrush current.
Q7. Can a DP MCB be used as a main switch in a single-phase distribution board? Yes. A DP MCB is commonly used as the incomer or main switch in SPN distribution boards for residential and small commercial installations. It provides overcurrent protection and complete circuit isolation in a single compact unit, making it more practical than a separate isolator and MCB combination for smaller panels.
